What to EAT, SEE, & DO

Enjoy The Colorful Buildings

The buildings are colorfully unique and have been attracting tourists for years.  I have no idea what sparked the builders to use multicolored designs, but I am glad they did.

Imagine some of the most mouthwatering pesto you have ever eaten. I promise you this will be better. Cinque Terre is known for the delicious homemade pesto. Since pesto is one of my favorite sauces, I was overjoyed to try the high quality best served in Cinque Terre.

Swim In The Beach At Monterosso

Monterosso is the biggest beach out of the five cities. The first day I arrived in Cinque Terre I spent the whole afternoon lounging on the beaches of Monterosso. This is the only beach in all of the five cities to have sand on the beach.

The other swimming areas are covered in rocks. Not that I mind the rocks at all, but the area in Monterosso has a designated beach area that is simply divine. You can also purchase drinks and snacks from the bar, which is always a plus.

Hike From Vernazza To Monterosso

There is a reason why hiking in Cinque Terre is on a lot of wanderluster’s travel bucket list. Now, there is a better way of doing the hiking experience. I will let you in on the secret. Hiking from Vernazza to Monterosso is a much better idea than hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza. The best view of the city of Vernazza happens within the first five minutes of the hike from Vernazza to Monterosso.

The rest of the hike has gorgeous views of the ocean below, with moderate difficulty. At the end of the hike, there are a large number of stairs to go down.  LIKE A LOT OF STAIRS. Going down them was not bad at all. However, when hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza the stairs are going up. I have never seen so many stairs in my life. Unless you are really looking for a workout-which honestly is not a horrible idea- I would suggest going from Vernazza to Monterosso. It is a quick hour hike, that I may have exaggerated and taken a little longer because I wanted to take loads of photos.

Discover Hidden Beaches

Monterosso is the only city that has a designated beach area with actual sand and a bar to grab a drink before settling in. But it is not the only place with beach access. In fact, every city in Cinque Terre has a way to jump into the water.

While I thoroughly enjoyed all the Monterosso beach had to offer, once I discovered the hidden beaches my heart was stolen. There are several hidden beaches with fewer people. In fact, there were only a handful of people down at the water in Corniglia. I even saw a girl wading nude and no one seemed to care or be paying attention. It is paradise.

Purchased Basil Gelato In Corniglia

Nothing is better than a dash of basil to spice things up. When I heard about basil flavored gelato, I was curious. After one bite this uncommon flavor of ice cream I knew that basil as a creamy dessert was a good combination. Not only does this delicious dessert have the texture and sweetness of gelato, but the delicious aroma and subtle taste of basil.
